Has anyone actually finished this series? Wow, I stopped reading his stuff years ago but I loved it. So many great ideas, great characters, really well written for the genre, and so detailed but then I realized that basically nothing was happening in each 1000 page book, or he would just build up to randomly taking out one of the bad guys. I think the series was at it's pinnacle in the third book.
Nina Sankovitch decides to read a book a day for a year. This decision is based on her difficulty in dealing with the death of her sister 3 years before. She recognizes that since her sister's death she has been on a whirlwind schedule of her own making in order to dull the pain of her loss. I enjoyed reading the criteria she developed for this self challenged. Books were to be approximately 300 pages based on how many pages she knew she read per hour. She would read only one book by each author. After each book she would write a review of the book. To accomplish this she used an on-line blog she had created. Her year long journey provides her with the time to think about what was and is important in her life. I enjoyed her analysis and family history although at times it was repetitious. The revelation of how the purple chair became her reading spot of choice was something I could relate to.As read her revelations I could definitely identify with some of her conclusions and feelings. For me this book was somewhat slow at the beginning but by the halfway mark I was hooked. Like her criteria for reading it's length is around 300 pages. A book I will continue to think about and digest.
