Okay, I've tried reading this book a couple of times now. This last time I got to about page 250 before I decided it just wasn't doing it for me. I know this is supposed to be one of the best books of the 20th century and all, but I just don't see it. I guess there are three books I'd compare this to. It's not that these three books are like GR, but that GR seems to be an amalgam of these three; unfortunately, the effect of the amalgamation is that I'd rather read these three books then read GR. The three books are: * Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson * Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace * House of Leaves, by Mark Z. Danielewski Cryptonomicon satisfies any desire I might have to read an intellectually interesting WW II era kind of puzzle book. Infinite Jest provides a better postmodern reading-experience than GR. And House of Leaves plays on my terrors more than GR ever could. I don't know. I guess I gave up reading it because I was having absolutely no response to the book. More than anything, I guess my response was "meh." And there are too many books in the world to read 500 more pages of "meh."
I won a copy from Goodreads. I will edit this with a review after I've read it. Thank you for the opportunity.
