I love Andrea Barrett's treatment of scientists in the nineteenth century, and this book features a scientific expedition to the Arctic in that time. As usual, she perfectly captures the awkwardness of the scientists, especially their difficulties in dealing with the laborers supporting the expedition. Still, it's a wonderful book for a cold winter evening and some scotch.
