This is my favourite book of all time. It is so amazing, I was captivated from chapter 1 to the very end. It holds alot of information about the earlier days, when social class was a huge deal. It was very well written, alot of detail. I love this book.
This was a fun read, but the writing quality was uneven. Lamott offers pearls at certain moments: beautiful insight into the nature of doubt, not-knowing, and the day-to-day struggle to feel grace. I loved her honesty about doing those stupid things that you know won't make you feel better... but you do them anyway... and then finding your way back to grace inch by inch. However, Lamott is also preachy at points and I felt whacked around by her harping on certain themes; those moments threatened to overshadow the more profound questions and the hilarious moments. The book would be much improved if it had been set aside for a year, then edited with a bit more perspective and distance.
