I don't remember much about Hurricane Katrina because I was planning my wedding, so this book was very interesting to read as the details and personal stories were pretty touching. Good twist at the end- kept me hooked. I didn't like how the storyline kept jumping from present to the past, so I can't give it 5 stars. But there was no language, no sex, just a good story about the tragedy of the hurricane, but also the tragedy of losing loved ones without getting a chance to say good-bye.

Conrad is an absolutely genius. His novella, Heart of Darkness, had long been a favourite of mine, but the texture, plot, and characterization of this book is just completely different. The language is so dense and the characters are intricately woven. What Conrad does best, however, is to so masterfully craft his plot such that the unfolding events provoke the most visceral response from the reader. My jaw was literally agape during some of the latter parts of the book. What a book!

If you are looking for a tell all celebrity biography - this isn't it. If you are looking for a laugh out loud funny book - this isn't it. If you are looking for a kind, nostalgic read that is kind of like listening to your grandfather or favorite great uncle tell stories, this is the book for you. The audio is narrated by Dick Van Dyke, which is a treat. Overall, there is nothing earthshattering here, but I found it really enjoyable.
