There is a tree nymph character (or maybe just a tree?) based on Tori Amos in this book. What could be better?
The kids in America should very happy that this is what they get offered to read in school. The topic of this book is such a hard one (racial prejudice) and I think it's lovely how the author chose to have a little girl as the narrator of the whole story. Things are always a bit more loosen up when they are putted in the perspective of a child. At the end this is just a sad story about how racism turns people into bigots and how what people call justice just functions in a matter of common sense, but it also teaches you that are very good and kind hearted people in this world that are ready to sacrifice their well-being in the name of what they consider to be righteous.
