Muahahahaha! Maberry pulled up his socks, his editor got his/her poop together, and this second novel in the trio is MUCH better than the first one. Far fewer of the pages go to establishing the story and the plot rocks right along. The characters - especially the main character, Benny - have really gotten themselves together, and though they still have room to grow and change, they make decisions and carry out actions that are well within their characters. My only quibble would be that there's a bit of a deus ex machina at the end, as there was in the first book. I'm going to be disappointed if the third ends the same way.
