Even Simon and Garfunkel couldn't make the sound of silence echo this rich. I've always loved Potok and this book helped me to remember why. I am not the biggest fan of fictional works - but this book strikes the right chord by weaving in some very interesting history of a culture I've always been fascinated with. I've been thinking about Danny's relationship with his father ever since I finished the book a few nights ago. What can I learn from the apparent silence I often seem to experience with my Heavenly Father? What lessons are there to be unlayered in the way He "raises" each of us? Books that pull that type of reflection out of me will forever remain on my favorites list. Now on to "The Promise" - Gerald Lund could learn a thing or two from Potok on how sequals should occur . . .
Great book, lots of things to apply to my life
I actually wrote this book and, amazingly, I still like it. Other readers tell me it's worth their while. I wouldn't suggest it if I didn't believe in it.
