Rage Times Fury was a pretty good book- there were a number of things I liked about it, the first being that the cover wasn't some already beautiful model with a little airbrushing added in for good measure. Even though the main couple, Malik and Saraya were different in my mind than on the cover I still enjoyed seeing "real" people on the front. If you can get past all the typos which there were a good number of but not nearly as many as any Black Pearl book, it actually flies right by. The story is written in an amatuerish way but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think this author has much potential and as they continue writing they'll get better and better. I honestly think there is potential to be one of the greats in urban fiction writing. I felt, for the entire book, like I was in one long conversation with Gentiles. I felt like he was speaking directly to me and telling me "his" story. This can be a good and a bad thing- it's good because I felt connected to the book from page 1. It's bad because that lent a hand to the amatuerish writing. I'm sure Gentiles will get better with that aspect. A little over three quarters into the book I thought it was ending. I was wondering what was going to be happening during the rest of the book and I confess I looked to make sure there wasn't a long excerpt for a different book. :) There wasn't. Gentiles just kept the story going and it kept right on being good. My biggest pet peeve with this book is the few situations that were extremely unrealistic. Most of the book was like a real conversation like I said, most of it could have happened to any of us, but there were a few parts where I smacked my head and said to myself, "oh, come on". A friend of the main character gets arrested towards the end and calls Malik from jail. Malik then goes into a whole conversation about how he got caught, why he got caught, and basically just said a lot of s&*^ that you wouldn't say on a jail phone. Any phone for that matter but especially a jail phone. There was one or two other small situations that were unrealistic as well but nothing so big as to make me rate this lower. I'm most definitely looking forward to reading more.
