This book started strong as I loved the Persian Colonel character (Behrani). However, I took a quick diskline to the other two main characters. They were both extremely flawed, needy and immature. I had absolutely no sympathy for them and I soon found myself hoping that the Colonel would kill them both. Alas, it was not to be. A quick synopsis. The bitch Nicolo, a recovering drug and alcohol addict, through an error at the County tax office looses her house because she doesn't open her mail, has her head up her ass and is too busy crying and being depressed because her husband left her. As she's being evicted from her house, she meets up with an officer who takes pitty of her, tries to help her and soon falls for her. The ensuing dialogue and interactions between these two were truly mind-blowingly stereotypical and so very gay. Meanwhile, the Colonel, a man of integrity, intellect and discipline, decides to invest what money he has left in real-estate, and unfortunately for him, he buys Nicolo's house at auction for a very good price. Well, Nicolo and her pet cop start harrassing and threatening and being major pains in the ass for the poor Colonel. Nicolo soon starts drinking again because the cop seems to think that constantly bringing booze to a depressed recovering addict is a great fucking idea, and the ensuing debacle is... predictable.
