Book #20 This had quite a bit more substance than a normal romance. The Male lead was based on a real historical figure - 17th century James Grahm, first Marquis of Montrose in Scotland. A lot of the novel dealt with James' military campaigns in Scotland. The romance with 21st century, time travelling Magda was almost like a second thought. I thought the ending was bittersweet. Surely it was happier than James' true ending (he was hanged in Edinburgh in 1650, a fact that you learn very early in the book), but I still find it a little sad. Borrowed from the Library. Update: a few days later and I still can't get this book out of my head. I don't know what it is about the book, but something just makes me sad when I think of it, and it is NOT a sad book at all. Maybe I'm juxtaposing the reality with the fiction?

I enjoyed the entire Death Gate Cycle - I think there are 7 in all.
