This is a book read to me long before I got around to reading it myself, long before I knew anything of Stalin. As a child, I engaged with the stories of the animals, and was saddened when Boxer was taken away. As an adult, I appreciated it as a commentary on the false promise of Stalinist revolution, how the animals having taken over the farm, divide into oppressors and oppressed..all animals are equal..but some are more equal than others....
This book is about an abused girl trying to hold herself together by watching this family on the beach and pretending that she is their long lost daughter. It may sound creepy, but i was okay and the ending made me tear up.
