This is a wonderful, amazing, and heart-wrenching book. Marketed as young adult fiction, it's really a fable for all ages, for anyone who's ever faced grief or loss. So much of this book reflected my own experiences and emotions in ways that I've never seen anywhere else. So much so that it startled me at times. People who know me well know that I'm a big fan of ebooks and e-readers. This, on the other hand, is an example of a book that you want to own on paper. I read a library copy, and the edition was so very beautiful that I had to order my own copy right away. Jim Kay's haunting and powerful illustrations are as much a part of the success of this book as Ness' wonderful text. Highly, highly recommended. The best thing I've read in a long while.
I finished the book, but didn't really enjoy it. I don't know why, but I just couldn't get "into" it. I liked the idea and that the story lasted20 years, but not the story itself.
