I will never forget walking into a bookstore in Busselton and seeing the intriguing cover of this paperback. I picked it up and read the jacket and went "!@#$%~, this sounds ~!@#$% marvellous!". After I read it I couldn't get enough of Kim Stanley Robinson. I had to go buy/borrow everything else he'd written at that time. The idea that an American could write such a damning scenario about his own country's future just blew me away. I want to see a movie made out of this one!
