I read this book because I absolutely loved the movie Adaptation. I had high hopes for this book, however it really isn't much more than a long winded botany article. The book is worth a skim if you like orchids or flowers in general. It has some really interesting orchid facts and Florida facts. Orlean did her research. But if you're looking for something as smart, witty, and poignant as Adaptation, don't expect much.
Robert Frost wrote "Home is the place where, if you have to go there, they have to take you in. Meg Mitchell Moore's novel, The Arrivals, is a lovely illustration of this sentiment. It's the story of what happens when William and Ginny Owen's adult children unexpectedly return home for the summer. Ms. Moore's loving examination of the family and their interactions makes for a lovely story.

I love the cover of this book, and Harriet Evans writing style. However I was a bit dissapointed as I found the writing style a bit boring and a bit too predictable. I was expecting to be a little more entertained by it than I was. Overall it's not a bad book and it's definitely a light easy read but if you're looking for a sink your teeth in and get involved kind of read this is not it.
I was expecting more. The main character was so promising but became annoying about half way through.
