I'm not much into WWII or military war stories. When my husband turns on the Military Channel, I leave the room. But, this book, on every must read list, was so compelling that I was able to get over my distaste for guns, battle, torture, etc. Laura Hillenbrand is an incredible story teller, and Louie Z's ability to survive is nothing short of miraculous. What occurred to me in the middle of the book was that it made the possibility of an interventionist God non-existent. Then, when Louie is able to get over PTSD after finding God, I felt it was very ironic. This one will stay with me for a long time.

There's not much written about the venerable T.P so this book, written as a series of transcribed interviews rather than the usual chronological narrative, is really rather overdue. TP is happy enough to go into great detail about certain events and he is just as lucid when describing the bad times as he is the good. I didn't know that someone burned down his house, almost killing his whole family and their maid! Freaky. This is a great book on an under-appreciated artist.

Definitly a good book. Of a girl born into religion, going through trials and tribulations to get the message. Wonderful format and I reccomend this book 4 sure.
