I just re-read this book. I remember when I first picked it up seven years ago, it took me a long time to get through it. Now, being older and I hope more mature and sensitive to history, society, religion, and relationships, I found I could not put this book down. The two boys of this story draw you into their world and don't let you go. Not even at the end. I now have to pick up the sequel, The Promise. I've been thinking about the title, The Chosen, and what it signifies for this book. And the more I think about it, I feel like it is an ironic title. Chosen signifies predetermination. The book describes that no matter what may be seemingly laid before you as your destiny, it is simply one option as long as one is willing to face the fear and consequences of choosing another path. I like this book. If you've read it, let's talk about it.
