I came in not knowing anything about this book, not having read anything else by Wally Lamb and I was floored by all the misery the protagonist experienced. loved it. Read it for my mommy book club.
The Da Vinci code was a pale imitation of Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum. Eco wove a amazing tapestry of intrigue where bored librarians take their massive knowledge of history and literature and concoct a conspiracy theory as a lark. The theory takes on a life of it's own as the wackos of the world decide that the made up conspiracy theory is the real explanation of what is happening in the world. Although the plot drags on at times, this is an amazing read.
