This would be a great book to discuss, because it's got two possible interpretations. A great twist at the end. I recommend this book.
It's a solid good read with lyrical writing, interesting characters and a plethora of historical info about Japan and their culture. While not a masterpice it's better than most and worth the time.
Now I want to watch the series again!
