This is one of the most moving books I've ever read. It made me curse out loud, laugh out loud, cry out loud. I could not believe how hard it was to read at times. It is AMAZING.
This is one of my favorite books--of course, I have an unnatural adoration for Dostoyevsky, but that can be largely ignored. This book surpasses all of his other works to the degree that his other works surpass most other authors' works. Perhaps its that I'm the eldest of three brothers (http://threebrothers.org anyone?), but I love the relational dynamic between the characters in this book. Now, my family is not at all like the Karamazov family, but it adds depth to the slightest peccadillo that occurs between us. Seeing the extremities of sin, depravity, and finally redemption in this book draws a tighter bond (in my mind) between those sinful people who I sinfully interact with every day. The story erupts in wondrous hope--it's truly an amazing novel.
