I bought it at the airport for fun light reading on the plane. It was everything I hoped it would be. The story is really sweet.
After my first Neal Gaiman experience with American Gods, I was totally ready to be wowed by a smart combination of fantasy and historically accurate information/knowledge. That was not what this book had to offer. It was a good book in its own right, just total utter fantasy. I think if I had read this book first I would have loved it - coming off the high I felt with American Gods, I was a little dissapointed. That is not to discount the fun underworld adventures found in the novel; I found myself surrounded by a whole new world, completely created out of Gaiman's imagination. And perhaps if I was from London instead of NYC, I would have had more physical reality to ground the novel in, making my reception of it warmer. All in all, a good book. Just go into it expecting a total fantasy world - you won't be disappointed.
