I've heard people say this book changed their lives. No seriously I have; and I wanted to say to them how crappy has your life been? This book was, to me, predictable. It was a decent read but unless your a devotee of Thompson, I'd skip it.
another great one from Kerrelyn. One day, I'm going to have to read all of them. I love the humor, the dialogue, the story. I will recommend her books to everyone.
I think this is probably the best Ralph Fiennes to book translation. (Okay, so it chronologically goes the other way, but we all know that Ralph is what really makes the book what it is). That is, of all the books Ralph has acted, this is the best. Sorry, the literary canon may be dead, but I'm purposefully excluding Harry Potter (don't whack me!). The Constant Gardener? Don't think so, based on other people's reviews. Maid in Manhattan? Not likely. Red Dragon? Not quite the breadth to be a classic. Hmm, Onegin's Onegin. And Wuthering Heights' Heathcliff. Tougher competition. Ah well, my vote is cast! The point is, it's a great book. If you're coming to the book after seeing the movie, the characters will have the actors' faces, but it's still a great book. Wonderful, actually. A difference focus to the movie, and the intensity of the love story is usurped by a larger collage of relationships and worldly issues, in particular around Kip and Hana. Read it!
