For one thing, I love this author! I'll say that right up front. From the first of her works that I read I became enthralled with the way she breathes life into the historical figures, makes them human, imagining the real emotions, not just words or dates... and yet it is all based on the events that ARE documented historically. I can't think of a more enjoyable way to learn about a period in history than the well-written historical novel! And Penman always does us the favor at the end with her author's notes of letting us in on where she took liberties to work her magic. While it took me a LONG time to finish this work (I had to renew it twice at the library!) this was not the fault of the writing, just events in my life that got in the way of reading. I was forced to set it down, otherwise I would not have!
Not sure if I would still like it, but have very fond memories of this one from 6th grade. Had to put it in here for Todd.
