Self-Editing For Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King is a book all writers—especially self- publishing fiction writers need to read! It might hurt a little—I know it did for me but in the end this book helped me more than anything I’ve read about copy editing. Having said all that I want to say that it must be taken with a grain of salt. Some of it is right on and some of it comes from someone who—I think—doesn’t like writers that much. The authors continually talk about the ‘hack writers’. If you do everything they say you will end up with a bland, small voices, piece of paper. That’s a mean thing to say about this book but its good—great—points far out weight the bad. That is why I give it 5 Stars. This book will make you a better writer! As for myself, I learned so much from this book about copy editing that I will read it again and again—even the parts that upset me. It has help make my books professional. I do use an editor and I consider that a must for any writer wanting to be an author. But a writer can’t write a first draft and then step away. You must be involved at every point of producing a good novel. I would put this book in the “must read” category for novelist.
