The first approximately 3/4 of the book was thick with faerie politics and history, and I found it hard to get through, boring, and something that I really didn't care about. Seth's story was the redeeming part of this book that I found interesting. I was ready to give up on this series until Seth's story started to come out. Seth wants to become a faerie so that he can be with Ash forever. As a mortal, he is mortal - he has to have protection and he will die much sooner than Ash. Keenen is aware that Ash loves Seth (though they haven't been dating very long) and as an immortal, he's willing to wait for Seth to die naturally so that he can have Ash as his own. With Seth away on his quest, Ash thinks he has just left so she decides to give Keenan a chance. Relationship woes ensue. Ash's character is in an interesting situation in that she is young and really has very little live and love experience, and yet immortal and has to think about things in the extremely long term. Keenan who is used to living with the long term in mind has much different perspectives. What difference would it make in the long run if she gave Seth a small part of her life? How would that question change if Seth became immortal?

A brilliant, interesting addition to Sanders' canon!

It is a great book to read, but at parts goes into far too much detail. I found it difficult to read each line and not skip entire chapters. Watching the movies beforehand was quite helpful as well to imagine the characters. Otherwise i think it would be a bit tough to follow all the new words/languages/people invented in the story.
