After Jitterbug Perfume, I was excited to read this book. But it was too wierd for me. I could barely get into it, and at that I ended up just skimming to the end for a modicum of finality. To his credit, the images he uses are powerful (the falafel stand), and the story is amazingly prescient considering it was written in the 1990s. Much of the book focuses on the Palestianian-Israli conflict. Though written in '95, he might as well be writing about today. Does so little change? He also pokes fun at the modern art movement of the 1990s with the conservative backlash. You'll see references to Olifi, Serrano, etc.
