Interesting story about a town of free born blacks and escaped or freed slaves in Canada, about an hour from Detroit. Buxton really existed, and many of the characters are based upon real people - winner of the Correta Scot King award, amongst others, this is a worthy read for kids of all ages - I'm an over 50 kid and I learned something! Written in the dialect of the times, it might be a challenge fo under third grade readers, though.
