I just sort of plowed into this book during my string of Crichton novels and pow! Suddenly I was in the middle of book which, in addition to being silly and poorly written, didn't have any dinosaurs or aliens, or evil simians or a guy with a self-destructing brain. I think as a young teen I hoped the auto-errotic-asphyxiation aspect would be a bit more titilating, but leave it to Crichton to make both eros et thanitos dull.

I got the action I wanted. With two more books in the series it wasn't surprising to see new plot threads emerge right at the end.
