Another winner from Amy Einhorn/Putnam, this collection of eight interconnected stories is set in Ft. Hood, Texas before, during, and immediately after a year-long deployment to Iraq. Fallon's characters remind me of many young Navy spouses I've either grown to love or managed to endure over the past twenty years. There is much to ponder in these stories.
Seriously, fear the Mormons. Fear religion in general. A very interesting book that is scary and sobering about the role of religion in the lives of some disturbed people, and about the growth of mormonism as a whole. Well written and fascinating.
Really 5 stars for the David Foster Wallace bits, and minus stars for the David Lipsky rambling. And duh, really, really, really why dudn't DL just use footnotes?
