Last year I was totally obsessed with it an thought it was the best book in the world. I thoguth Rose was an amazing strong-minded character who got what she wanted like *snaps fingers*. I thought she was powerful character with lots of feist, as well as humour. But then this year I sort of read it again and realised she was like a Bella Swan in disguise.... Really I was just like: "Wow, she's pathetic.." Every single chapter is like "DIMITRI DIMITRI DIMITRI!!!!" Not that I mind Dimitri (He's furking hot.) But really, this heroine was like: *starry eyes at Dimitri* omg I live by his smiles... *gasp gasp hyperventilates* And other quotes from the book that I have sort of warped (just a little bit), haha. But yeah, I don't like her anymore. She's still cool and all but ..eh. eh.

This is a gem of contemporary haiku and tanka. It reads like a collection of short stories, almost. If you've lived in Japan particularly, you'll enjoy the memories of vivid sights, smells, sounds, and feelings that are brought to life by a few evocative words. But I'd say any female who has ever thought herself in love will connect with Ms. Machi-chan's imagery. And any lover of small things will appreciate her sensibility...

This is karmic astrology - way beyond the sun signs - it is true spiritual astrology. Descriptions based on the placement of the North Node (or True Node) in the birth chart, this book provides much depth and insight into each one's soul and its purpose. Beautifully written with strong overtones of compassion.

Listened to this on audiobook and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you've never read one of Troost's travelogues, pick up Sex Lives of Cannibals first. His writing is witty and his adventurous lifestyle is fascinating to the travel-starved, such as myself. And he's definitely changed my thinking about life in much of the South Pacific (that's a serious understatment!). This takes place after the events in his first book (Sex Lives of Cannibals - no sex, no human cannibals, but still mildly embarrassing to carry around), so there are plenty of references to his life that would be a little out of place to those who hadn't read the first book, or at least I think so. The audiobook version is terrific, narrated by the incomparable Simon Vance, who also narrated Under Heaven.
