I thought this mother did a fine job in limited circumstances raising her child so that he didn't feel he missed out on anything. Thats about all you can hope for as a parent.
Just about the bleakest thing I've read in years. Gorgeous prose, but full of inexplicable violence and seething bitterness. A frustrating read.
