It's not a book about Satan. It's the book that got Salman Rushdie in trouble with a lot of people, particularly the government of Iran. The Ayotollah (sp?) Khomeni put a fatwa (a death sentence) on his head because of his portrayal of the prophet Muhammed in this strange and fantastical novel. Not only was he a character (which is not okay according to the Muslim religion), but he was not a good guy. But that's not the main story. The main story is about two men, Saladin Chamcha and Gibreel Farishta, who fall from the sky after an airplane is split in two. When they land on the earth, they are okay, but Saladin soon finds himself transforming into a goat, while Gibreel, becomes an angel. Thus begins the epic story of good versus evil. IT'S SO GOOD!!!
** spoiler alert ** I read most of this book in 5 hours. It was a short easy good read. The topics were great, but Charlie confused me. What were the hospital visits for ? Does he have a social disorder of some kind ? He was super awkward and didnt really know how to be social and was super smart. Just from my pysch classes and experience in life and reading other books he seemed different. In a great adorable awkward way (:
