Ever since I accidentally stumbled upon the YA novel "Habibi," Naomi Shihab Nye has been a favorite writer of mine. Her poetry is very prose-like, and full of truth. This is from the poem "Brushing Lives": Who else? They're out there. The ones who could save or break us, the ones we're lonely for, the ones with an answer the size of a pocket handkerchief or a shovel, the ones who know the story before our own story starts, the ones who suffered what we most fear and survived. Sometimes we stand side-by-side on the platform waiting for the train and the miracle is not the meeting but the miss-- we feel full already, we have enough friends.
