Roseanne Thong writes about the power of doing good deeds in her picture book Fly Free. I learned about the Buddist idea of samsara, or the wheel of life. Mai,a young girl who takes care of birds at the Buddist temple, starts the circle of good deeds, when she shares the saying: "Fly free, fly free in the sky so blue. When you do a good deed, it will come back to you!" The sharing and support the characters provide each other in this story is a good lesson for all second graders to learn.
