** spoiler alert ** In Book 2 of the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Sookie finds herself paying the piper, so to speak, as she and Bill, her vampire boyfriend, are shipped to Dallas, Texas to find a missing vampire. This is all in the wake of a coworker's mysterious death and a creepy monster that gives Sookie a deadly message to relay to vampire Eric. (Spoilers ahead...) Once again, I have to say it's literary smut... but, somehow the tawdry sex scenes fit into the plot as Sookie and Bill settle their differences after Dallas. I was happy to discover this book was not as raunchy as the first book in this respect... and I had to breathe a sigh of relief that the orgy scene in the book wasn't that graphic because Sookie was able to get the information she needed before things got too hot and heavy. As for plot... this book had a little more substance to it than "Dead Until Dark", and it leaves the reader with some plot devices for the next installment of Sookie. I really enjoyed the tension between Bill, Sookie and Eric... and Eric's choice of outfit for the Orgy was just a hoot. The Dallas plot was really well done, I thought. Though, I am still left wondering about the pastor who attempted to abduct Sookie at the airport. Who was he? We know he was with the church... but not who he was. I thought the part about Godfrey was poetic... how, at the end, Sookie cried for him.
