The reason I don't like writing Steinbeck is the reason he writes his books; he wants to tell the story of the poor, the laborer, the outcast and I can't stand the way they talk! Or rather, I can't stand to read the way they talk. It's astonishing how well this book was written; the foreshadowing is pure art. Alas, all I got out of this book is that the world is a dark, cruel place. That plus the fact that I struggled reading it (due to their horrific accents) I give it a two. Everyone should read it, but not everyone has to like it. Also, does anyone know if Steinbeck is sexist? He really seems to hate women. Is that in real life or just in his novels?
