I read this in highschool for an English assignment. It was a good enough read, but not really my taste at the time. I recall feeling that it was more of a male book. My horizons have broadened since then.
Because there's not enough tepid, predictable, passable chick lit for some readers.
Good kids books are very enjoyable to adults as well and this is one of those. I especially enjoyed the book because it takes place in my neighbourhood: I knoew the streets, the stroes, the people. Simply loved it.
