It was a fun read. Nothing too deep or mind-blowing, but it had decent pacing and a fun main character. What I don't really get, is the inconsistency of the detective, Murphy's, attitude toward magic. She hires Harry on to investigate the case, but acts like magic is all a bunch of crap. So why hire him then? The other cops seem to think he's a joke as well. I couldn't really place if magic in this story is supposed to be secretive to the general public, or if everyone is supposed to know about it. It seems to vary from chapter to chapter. Other than that gripe, it was an entertaining book, and I'll probably check out the next in the series, eventually. I'm not rushing out to buy it today, since I'm not enamored with it, and it didn't end of a cliffhanger (thank God, I hate when books do that).
my son checked this out of his school's library and it was a great book to read together.
