The book was okay. I really liked it until the end, which was a bummer. It really brought the rest of the book way down in my opinion. The end basically was set up so the story could e continued, rather than it ending right there. The epilogue was not needed, it would've much better if it cut off where all the characters lost hope and the "battle" was ambiguous, up for interpretation. Sorry, I can't really say too much without ruining the ending, but really the ending just made the entire book seem corny. I really did not like the end.
I just finished re-reading this book for about the fifth time. I love Victoria Holt! As in many of her books, the heroine is not a beauty, but spirited. She has to pick among three potential husbands, and, of course, picks the most exciting one!
