I read this in a day, which is ironic because I had been resisting reading it for a while. I wasn't sure I wanted to read the story of a mother imprisoned by a man, and her son who is born in the Room where they are imprisoned, told from the perspective of the five year old son. However, this is superb writing, so simple but subtle, and a very beautiful perspective on how a mother would cope with such a situation. An intelligent, wonderful book.
I read this book last summer and it is the type of book that draws you into an entirely unfamiliar world. It is about a family in India with a sordid past. It made me analyze certain ideals that I never thought I would question. The writer was in only in her early twenties when she wrote this book!
