danticat's skills noticeably develops between her first and third novel. though "breath, eyes, memory" is quite good, in "the dew breaker" danticat has developed a more complex and unsettling voice. difficult to read, but incredible.
The main character is supposedly a top English lawyer with a very high IQ. She actually comes over as very stupid. It just does not work.
