Pretty much just gives reviews/summaries of the episodes from season one; there wasn't too much critique involved. I guess if I want deeper critique or "Easter eggs" I'll have to do it the old fashioned way, by geeking out on the Lost fan sites and reading through the threads and forums. Comes with a DVD, though.

Not gonna lie: I held off on this book for a long time. Mainly because I don't particularly care for werewolf books and also because it just didn't seem like my kind of read. But, boy, am I glad I picked this up. It was exciting and different and Pearce incorporated much more than just commercial plot points, she actually dived into siblings bonds and friendships that I loved to see. Finally a werewolf book I can say I actually loved. Not to mention the ending made me cry, I loved Scarlett, and the action was intense! My only issue was that it was a bit predictable for me. I knew the twist when "Potential" was first mentioned. Full review: http://evelynjanelle.blogspot.com/201...

This was so incredible and kept me up all night (which wasn't so good b/c I'm already getting weird sleep because of the cats I'm housesitting), and it's also the first book I can remember that made me cry in the first 20ish pages. The most impressive speculative book that I've read since Parable of the Sower, which is saying a lot. Why isn't the sequel out yet?

This goes for all three books in the original Mistborn series. Brandon Sanderson does twisty, complex, and creative fantasy very well. His characters are intricate and real; they grow and change throughout the story. There is a definite 'gamer' influence in these stories, but they are in no way cliche. The plot is very well developed. Though individual actions and events may be predictable within the tale, there will always be plenty to surprise you. Brandon doesn't hold back when taking chances with his characters either. I would not say that the Mistborn series is for everyone. The complexity of the story often leaves the reader lost or confused, and the underlying conflict between characters and the created society is often painful and strongly reflective of reality. There is a creepy feel to much of the story, and though partial resolution often follows conflict in the story, the reader is left feeling contemplative and resigned rather than with a basket of warm-and-fuzzies. Whether you like these stories highly depends on what you are looking for in entertainment. I found these books intriguing. The complicated plots and characters drew me in and kept me waiting for more. Readers will find themselves questioning the characters and their choices, and become conflicted in their appraisals of them. Like many of Sanderson's books, these have satirical undertones. But Brandon rarely reveals his own opinions when setting up scenarios, rather he leaves you with a lot to think about. In my opinion this is the only way to present social commentary. I really enjoyed this series, however, if you are looking for a fun story to sigh and smile over when you are done, these are not the books for you.
