Second in the hunger games series. I didn't see that coming. (I was thinking more (view spoiler) How wrong.) This book is as fast paced and relentless as the first. The world is now more familiar but its brutality is still shocking. Since we're not always sure where the dangers coming from (or when) its possibly even more suspenseful. After her defiance at the first games the president is out for Katniss as there is the threat of revolt from the districts. Its also the year of the Quell - the anniversary of the hunger games which leads to big rule changes and even more danger. She's not the only one wanting a revolution though which leads to some horrible consequences (view spoiler) There are some new characters, some more successful than others. Of course not all survive. I liked Finnic and even Johanna. The ending is shocking and a real set up for book 3.
This book was a beast. It was a slow beginning and it took a few hundred pages before I started to get into it. This book left me feeling much the same as I did after Crime and Punishment. So many characters go insane, become depressed, ruin their lives. Very depressing. Interesting read, but definitely a slow go with many tangents and insights into lots of different topics.
