This was my introduction to steampunk and I loved it! I wasn't sure what to expect, and for me the combination of technology and living creatures was so fascinating and original that I couldn't put it down. I liked as well that Scott Westerfeld pulled together the two points of view really well, so that although they started a long way apart, it seemed inevitable that they'd come back together.
Not a very good textbook at all. It's chock-full of algorithms and has almost no examples to show how they're actually used. To make matters worse, there's nothing on google to help you make sense of them or the material presented, so you are really, really on your own. Anyone who has this assigned as their primary textbook had better pay attention in class and take good notes. This is NOT one of those books you can easily follow on your own.
Changed my perspective on life!
I'm biased because Vonnegut is one of my all-time favorite writers. Not his best work, of course, but his voice and his ideas are as original and interesting as ever.
