Not as good as Dahl's Umbrella Man short stories, but still delightful. Skin and Dip in the Pool were my favorites--they make you feel sad and amused, but most of all, you feel an appreciation for Dahl's wicked sense of humor.
Bryson brings his characteristic wit and charm to everything he writes about. His journey on the Appalachian Trial is no different. He imbues the people he meets along the trial with such honesty and affection that it is really difficult to not enjoy yourself on his journeys. His occasional political stances are well met, never too over the top [for me] and actually ring true in his own paradoxical and funny blend of folksiness and ivory tower intellectualism.
