After reading Carr's first two books, The Alienist and The Angel of Darkness, I was looking forward to reading this one. The characters are hollow, the plotline overly fantastic, and the cliches overabundant, while the idea behind the book seems plausible. I managed to get 58 pages into it. I just couldn't bring myself to read anymore. Caleb Carr needs to stick to writing historical fiction.
believe it or not, i'd gotten through all my years of school without being assigned to read it. i wish i had a childhood reading experience to compare my recent one to, but i absolutely savored every moment of reading it. i didn't want it to end. and recognizing neighborhoods and streets and stores in my neighborhood only sweetened the deal.
This story is about a woman who offered a ride home to a young woman after a weight watchers meeting. On the way home, they get into a car accident and the young woman dies but the main character lives. She finds out that the woman who died had made a list of Things to Do Before her 25th Birthday. The woman decides to finish the list for her. This was an easy read and a much better story than I expected. It isn't super predictable and you really like the characters.
