Keyes'le benim için bir ilk olan bu kitabı bitiremedim. Lola'nın parçaları kesinlikle korkunçtu, bahse girerim Finnegan'ın Wake'i beyne daha az vergilendirir ve çok daha faydalı olur. Hikaye beni depresyona soktu ve karakterleri ya da onlara ne olduğunu umursamadım, bu yüzden kitabı bir yardım çantasına koydum. Sonunda KORKUNÇ bir kitap olmalı.

i had seen sofia coppola's movie first and was so impressed with the atmosphere created in this story. for some reason, the movie conveyed this better, to me, than the book. i think in the book it just became more apparent to me that nothing much really happened, and while that does not always bother me, in the case, for some reason it did.....

Very descriptive writing with a feel different from other author's I've read. Definitely an influence on Lud in the Mist and Stardust.

Thirty years ago all I read was science fiction, I don't know how this escaped me, it is a classic of the genre. Now I rarely read science fiction but I thoroughly enjoyed Valentine Smith's story, as the man who raised by Martians came to the earth of his forebears and transformed earth's culture. Smith combines psychic powers and superhuman intelligence with a childlike naivete of Earth's ways.

It pains me to say that this novel wasn’t my forte. This is my first Dekker novel, and while I’ve heard many glorious things about his writing, this particular story just didn’t reach out and grab me. Although the underlying concept of the novel is quite superb, I never personally connected with the characters, which is a must for me. I understood the character’s plights, and I disliked the bad guys and cheered on the good guys, but that was the extent of my connection with them. Now, I was quite upset...
