REad this book in Poland, I think it is the only Potter book i've actually read! It was one of the few books that was on the trip w/ us that was in english. i'd seen the movies up until this point so i wasnt lost. really liked it, enjoyed the movie i think i own the first5 books-but havent read them.
Wonderful story by a first time novelist. Set in the deep south during the 1960s, the story is told from the perspective of 3 women: 2 black maids, and 1 white woman from the upper middle class. It explores the relationships between the "servers" and "the served", and reminds us of the not too distant, painful oppression of the past.
