I loved The Historian, but this one could not capture my interest in the same way. Elizabeth Kostova is an amazing writer, I just found this one wasn't my cup of tea.
I only read this book so that when people talked about "The Man Without Qualities," I could casually say, "Oh, did you read his earlier work, 'The Confusions of Young Torless'?" 'Cause obvs, I am never going to get around to reading "The Man Without Qualities."
This is a very creative book, and very daring. If you start it, be sure to read it through to the end.
I was really captivated by this play. It's a short, fast read. I was done in an hour. I had just graduated from college when this news story broke and I was busy job hunting so I missed the action when it actually took place. But I could picture it like it just occurred. I like how the play group told all kinds of view and shared their experiences. I especially liked how they went back a year later and got feedback from how some of the folks changed, some for better, some for worse and others who never changed. It's a story that should be read by anyone for compassion, for tolerance and for the human spirit.
