** spoiler alert ** My one real complaint: It's another story where the "ugly" heroine has traits that are conventionally attractive and valued. Don't make her tall, but like too tall? Or white, but like really pale? Those aren't minuses, they're pluses. Give me a short heroine, a dark heroine, a fat heroine, and I'll know that she knows what it is to be made to feel ugly. Speaking of fat heroines, I really think that would have worked well here. I mean, it's revealed that Aza is part gnome, and gnomes grow wider rather than taller as they age...so why not let her be fat? It would explain the way people treat her, and tie in nicely to her roots.
